On the eve of his 41st, Jake turned to me and said he didn’t want or expect anything for his birthday. Two days passed and, watching him grip his Coke cup at a restaurant, I could tell he’d changed his mind about the whole no gifts-thing. I ordered (4) cups, and they arrived in mint condition.
