I love my pregnant friends, I love passing along my realistic 'babylist'. Here you go, friends:
BABY THINGS
Priorities...
Burp cloths (get a bunch, put them everywhere lol)
My Breastfriend feeding pillow (a nursing pillow that was very supportive)
Changing table: We like our keekaroo peanut!
Washable/pad liners for changing table
Diapers (newborn diapers specifically that have a cut out for cord!) We love our Coterie subscription. There's also Honest company.
Wipes: tbh we started off using WaterWipes but didn't LOVE (the sheets came out of the dispenser in clumps.) We landed on Coterie wipes to keep it all in one shipment.
Wipe dispenser: Oxo (we did not opt for a "warmer" - some folks love, we deemed unnecessary...)
Diaper cream: I love Earth Mama Balm
Diaper disposal/genie: tbh we don't like diaper genie, it's a little plastic-y, but that's what we got. If you find something great let us know lol PRO TIP: Get a few Arm & Hammer Scent bombs to neutralize the pail (place at the bottom.)
Sound machine: we started with a subscription and Hatch Rest 2nd Gen, but boy did I fight with that thing. I ended up getting a super lo-fi Dohm and I freaking love it. It stays on ALL DAY, and it's just a really simple woosh sound.
Monitor: We went with Nanit ...pro tip, set up an old iPad to watch the Nanit all day, so that you can use your phone while you're watching the baby constantly. (Also suggest getting a simple non-wifi monitor option for travel)
Consider a humidifier, my friends love Canopy because you can wash it in a dishwasher.
Any eco brand of liquid dish soap for bottle parts, Dapple.
Sensitive skin/unscented laundry detergent.
Sterile cotton balls for newborn face washing and under neck
Washcloths for newborn sponge bath (pre-cord falling out)
Stroller w/ Bassinet: we went with UppaBaby V2 Cruz, but have to say, it's personal and there's lots to consider in this search!
Carseat with infant insert --went UppaBaby to stay consistent.
Carriers: BabyBjorn mesh, very lightweight & adjustable for infant sizing. Artipoppe: chic mama item for your friends to chip in on.
OK, now moving on to a check-list of things we found particularly useful in the first 0-4 weeks...
Long-sleeved footies (size: newborn, 0-3 mos, 3-6 mos) (x7)
-Newborn sizing, the softest material, and zipper avoids bellybutton: Kyte
-Lightweight options, easy to close: MagneticMe
-Cotton, all weather options: Carters
Long-sleeved onesies (size: 0-3 mos, 3-6 mos) (x7)
"Sleepers" Hanna Andersonn
"Daily clothes" Kate Quinn is just my absolute fav style & fit right now. Young Days is cuuuute too!
Short-sleeve onesies (size: 0-3 mos, 3-6 mos). Also referred to as bodysuit, undershirts.
Cardigans / layers (size: 0-3 mos, 3-6 mos)
Hats
Socks [we rarely use, just on hand - footies, or leggings with feet have been great on their own!]
"Skin to skin belt": Ok actually, this item isn't 100% necessary because you could use a muslin cloth or blanket...but there are a few nice brands as a gift option! Velcro: Studio romeo. At-home carrier/wrap: Sollybaby
For night sleep & daytime napping:
Swaddles [velcro and zip up versions, vs. receiving blankets] (size 0-3 mos) Adjustable SwaddleMe (x3) Zip up SwaddleMe (x2)
For daytime swaddling
"Receiving Blankets" (a.k.a 'muslin' blankets or cotton blankets were useful for wrapping up newborn/infant to be held by others) Aden & Anais (x3-6)
Sleep Sack for "post Swaddle" phase [~4 mos]. All temperature sleep option via Woolino brand (x1-2)
If you decide to use the Snoo bassinet...
The sleepsack/Swaddles are necessary (size S and found the M to be useful for the transition to crib) Happiest baby (x2-3) Bassinet sheet (x2)
And then useful things for 2+ weeks...
Crib
Glider/Rocker: Babyletto, specifically got this style to fit our specific space. We don't like the West Elm rocker :/
Blackout shades or room with curtains
Rug with sustainable materials, if possible.
Hamper (truly so so absolutely/positively really useful)
Crib mattress
Babyletto (Hybrid mattress & cover. Heads up that if/when poop gets on this we've found the cover takes a long time to dry. Not suggesting you get two covers because you can just put the sheets over the mattress, but the thought to have two covers has crossed our minds!)
Crib sheets (x2) Lots of options! Plain is good for future sleep/less distracting to have patterns around the baby, but that's not as fun so: Sollybaby sheets are really lovely, soft and breathable. Little Unicorn colorful/pretty too.
Mobile (some people don't use these bc of sleep distractions...we liked ours for early days decor!)
Bathtub with infant insert (this search was hard and we aren't 100% on any of the options...we tried a bunch - some don't fit sink, some aren't supportive etc. Just sayin' look at the specs of whatever you get lol) First Years liked it, Fisher Price didn't fit our sink but ppl like?
Stokke currently using this, love her. And the catchy for future Baby Lead Weaning. Guess what- the Stokke doesn't come with a tray, so buy separately.
Hooded bath towel (x2) Look at reviews for soft ones! fyi Burts Bees isn't that soft IMO, neither is West Elm (sorry I keep ragging on West Elm??) and we like Little Unicorn, but still on the hunt for a super cozy towel...
Body & Shampoo soap: We used a combo shampoo/body wash from Earth Mama as well, Babyganics.
Bath thermometer! Useful, really! b&h
Health things to have on hand...
-Thermometer
-Mobile Medicine Cabinet
-Saline Nose Drops
-Baby nail filer, battery operated
-Baby Nail Clippers
-Q-tips
-Hair brush and comb: We used calendula oil for cradle cap. We use almond oil for post-bath massage.
A few decent registry gifts...
-Graphic Cards
-Any specific board books you want!
-PlayMat for Tummy Time: Loveevery
- Safe place to put baby when you need to do something. DockATot deluxe+ (useful right away. The bassinet is kind of cool! Would have been useful, I think)
- BabyBjorn bouncer (useful 8 wks on)
- Diaper Bag
- High chair: like I mentioned, Stokke (this product has the option of ordering the chair along with a daybed-type insert for infants. Otherwise you can store in the basement for the first 4 mos.)
Floating high chair, if you have a counter! Perch (store for first 4 mos)
And now, for the popular stuff that is very baby-dependent...
Bottle Warmer: Dr Browns.
BabyBrezza formula/bottle warmer
Baby Bottles: Dr Brown's anti-colic, narrow slow flow. And then you might end up trying a few different brands...look up como tomo, Pigeon, Baeba, Philips etc.
Pacifier: We tried a few brands like MAM - can't really speak to this though...
Bottle cleaning accessories: Munchkin stand, high capacity. Molly's Suds dish pods. Brush cleaner
And for post-natal care, I really had to piece this together at the time, so as a heads up...Get a sweet little caddy for your master bathroom and put the following in there (also a good gift idea for anyone who has friends who are expecting!)
Frida boyshort (obsessed. Line these toss-away briefs with extra long & thick pads. Have on hand: thin liners as the spotting decreases)
Frida cooling pads (3-4x a day, they're amazing)
For constipation: Miralax, CALM, Dr Christopher’s: soothing digestion.
Postnatal vitamin (or continue using prenatal)
And, for that postpartum haul, consider the following items if considering nursing/pumping...
Travel Breast Pump (Medela, Elvie etc)
Breast pump (on Babylist you can have them contact your insurance to handle the entire process of requesting/delivering a month prior to due date): Spectra2
Nursing bras! Bravado worked great - sports bra version held me in.
Silverette cups for nipples
Pumping bras (if pumping, and yes these can be different from nursing bra!)
And there are endless other products that people will say are necessary, happy to give our two cents, clearly.
